![]() Pallbearers include grandsons, Landon Dowdy, Corey Dowdy, Reid Hall, Chase Dowdy, Preston Boler and Peyton Boler. The Funeral Service will begin at 12:30 PM in the church sanctuary with Bro. The Visitation for Wilma Dowdy will be Saturday, Mafrom 10:30 AM until 12:30 PM at Agricola Baptist Church. Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Rick (Lynn) Dowdy of Brandon, Mississippi, Natalie (Kenny) Hall of Little Rock, Arkansas, Bobby (Amanda) Dowdy of Hurley, Mississippi, and Kim (Eric) Boler of Hurley, Mississippi grandchildren, Landon (Jackie) Dowdy, Corey (Megan) Dowdy, Syndee Wells, Gracee Wells, Reid (Sandy) Hall, Krista Hall, Laykan Dowdy, Chase Dowdy, Preston Boler, and Peyton Boler great-grandchildren, Lucas Lugo, Mary Evelyn Dowdy, Hayes Dowdy and Robert Hall siblings, Lois Myrick and Helen Clement Special friends and caregivers, Mary “Boots” Rich and Dawn Wade numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lamar “Bob” Dowdy parents, JB Myrick and Dicy Lee Ratliff Myrick siblings, Jessie Clyde Myrick, Robert Ray Myrick, Joyce Myrick Williams and Johnny Mack Myrick. She was Caregiver of her sister for almost 40 years and she was a member of Agricola Baptist Church. She worked in the payroll department at Ingalls Shipbuilding for 29 years. She endured many medical challenges over her lifetime, but persevered and managed to have a garden every year. ![]() She was a loving mother who taught her kids the value of hard work and determination. She was always busy enjoying her garden, canning fruits and vegetables, fishing and watching the Braves. She loved her family greatly and loved being at home. You never had to guess what she was thinking and she always made sure to tell you how much she loved you. Wilma was feisty and spunky yet loving and nurturing with a strong spirit and big heart. She was reunited with Bob, the love of her life and husband of 54 years, who passed away seven years ago. She will be greatly missed by family and friends, but there is comfort in knowing she is healed and with her Savior. ![]() In addition to various community involvement organizations, Joy’s time outside of funeral service is spent with her husband, Jeff, and their children, Easton and Hadley.Wilma Myrick Dowdy went to be with Jesus on March 22, 2023. She recently received her Certified Funeral Service Practitioner (CFSP) designation awarded by the Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice which signifies a commitment to raise and improve the professional standards of funeral service practice and pursue life-long learning. Joy also holds a Full Life Insurance Producer license. She had the privilege of learning from some veteran professionals in the industry for several years as she worked in Jackson, Greene, Jones and Mobile counties. Joy is a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer in Mississippi and Alabama. After receiving a Master’s Degree from the University of South Alabama, she pursued Funeral Service Technology at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. ![]() Joy received a Bachelor of Business Administration from Mississippi State University where she graduated Summa Cum Laude. She is the daughter of Blane and Ann Davis and a 1999 Graduate of George County High School. Joy Herndon is a life-long resident of George County. ![]()
